Fifteen or twenty years ago around here the autumn color season peaked on Columbus Day weekend. The roads and highways were jammed for miles with tour busses hauling leaf peepers from Boston. The only sensible thing to do was lay in a few extra cans of soup and stay home until the traffic cleared.
But for the past several years, it's looked more like this in early October. There's a little color around, but mostly things are still pretty green. Some years are better than others, and it looks like this will be a bad one all around. Who knows why. It's tempting to say this is about climate change, but I don't know if anybody knows for sure.
