This sounds a little grim to me

Florida Lawyers Offering Free Living Wills to Teachers Returning to School During Pandemic – NECN

Why spend $15M on a newspaper…

Senate passes defense bill without funding for Stars and Stripes - U.S. - Stripes

The Senate's version of the NDAA, which passed 86-14, contains no language reversing the Pentagon's February request to strip the roughly $15.5 million annual subsidy that the editorially independent news organization receives.

…when you can only get $21M to figure out if an OTC antacid pill will help COVID-19 patients (apparently, it won't)?

(Don't worry. None of this has to make any sense.)

MIT releases deepfake video of 'Nixon' announcing NASA Apollo 11 disaster - CNET

Almost makes you nostalgic for Tricky Dick, doesn't it?

More to the point, it vividly illustrates why the sayings, "seeing is believing," is no longer true.

Coronavirus Reaches Remote Massachusetts Island – NECN

The island between Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay has about 20 year-round residents, according to the town's website, which swells to about 400 during the summer.

Everything is backward all day

Back in northern Minnesota where I went to high school we used to say that every year we had nine months of winter and three months of soft ice.

Here in New England we have nine months of winter and three months of work on the street in front of the house. Today, whatever they're doing has to be done in reverse, it seems, because those beepy backup warnings on the trucks have.been going full blast all day.

It's only Monday and already I'm looking forward to the weekend, when we have only lawnmowers to contend with.

If you're not feeling gloomy enough already, we can help

Here's a pretty interesting analysis…

Election 2020: Russia Cares, China Doesn't - Foreign Policy Research Institute

…that ends with this paragraph:

"Finally, Russia and China will collectively undermine confidence in U.S. democracy, but headed into the polls in November, the biggest threats on election day 2020 will be domestic rather than foreign. As noted last year, what could Russia or China do at this point that America is not already doing to itself? For Putin and Xi, it's easier to ride the American tide of democratic destruction than make the wave."

What would the word, "curated," mean in this context?

Stuff in black boxes, maybe? I have no idea.

At the grocery store the other day…

…a place everyone knows is the source of all useful knowledge…a guy told me that with all this global warming going on it's only a matter of time before the Earth is as hot as Mars. How much time, he didn't say.

But no matter. If you (like me, I confess) ever fantasized about traveling to Mars, this will save you a whole lot of money.

So you can splurge on a new pair of shorts.

Also got himself a lot more space on the subway!

He tossed the shampoo and conditioner. He quit soap altogether, except for hand-washing. He stopped using deodorant, moisturizer, exfoliant and every other personal-care product.
