Leery is as leery does

Seeing danger, some in GOP leery of Texas abortion law

Americans are hardly of one mind on the issue…

It's definitely a sheen

Feds responding to reports of oil, chemical spills after Ida

Only after the AP sent the company photos Wednesday showing extensive flooding and what appeared to be petroleum in the water, the company confirmed it had “discovered a sheen of unknown origin in some flooded areas of Alliance Refinery.”

[You can see this sheen for yourself in a photo at the link.]

Horrifying new buzzword spotted

"Starting today, Brave users who opt into Brave Rewards can use the new Gemini User Wallet to custody their Basic Attention Tokens (BAT)."

Just to be perfectly clear

If I ever go over-the-top irredeemably bananas it's going to be because of a fitted sheet.

Or possibly peeling a sticker off a tomato.

It's going to be something. You can bet on that.

More on the power situation in New Orleans, which is daunting

With the lights off, food spoiling, gas pumps out of order, New Orleans faces an extended power failure

All told, more than a million customers were without power in Louisiana Monday morning, including 176,000 in Orleans Parish. At least 888,000 of them are Entergy customers, the company’s chief executive, Deanna Rodriguez, said.

And, to be fair…

Hurricane Ida traps Louisianans, shatters the power grid

…you can't pump gasoline without electricity either.

There are a lot of other things you can't do too. I, myself, have been in New Orleans right after a major hurricane (Betsy, in September of 1965) and what I remember is…warm beer. Also, in modern hotels you can't open the windows and when the AC goes off in New Orleans, even in September, things can be pretty sticky.

Not so much flooding this time (way to go, Engineers) but plenty of wind damage, it seems. It'll take a long time to clean up.
