If you're sick of all those conspiracy theories and such…

Welcome to the Flat Earth Wiki

Throughout the years it has become a duty of each Flat Earth Society member, to meet the common Round Earther in the open, avowed, and unyielding rebellion; to declare that his reign of error and confusion is over; and that henceforth, like a falling dynasty, he must shrink and disappear, leaving the throne and the kingdom of science and philosophy to those awakening intellects whose numbers are constantly increasing, and whose march is rapid and irresistible.

Don't worry, 5G can't spread COVID: It can't even spread phone calls

Verizon “leads” all US carriers in mmWave 5G availability at 0.8%

US mobile customers are almost never able to connect to millimeter-wave networks even though the cellular industry and Verizon in particular have spent years hyping the fastest form of 5G.

Even the good news is, maybe, bad

Flu Has Disappeared Worldwide during the COVID Pandemic

Public health experts are grateful for the reprieve. Some are also worried about a lost immune response, however. If influenza subsides for several years, today’s toddlers could miss a chance to have an early-age response imprinted on their immune system.

Pretty much the only good thing that happened yesterday…

…temporarily good, at least…was the Bears got Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields in the first round of the NFL draft.

Now, says Chicago Sun-Times sportswriter Jason Lieser, "All the Bears have to do — and this is the scary part — is not ruin him."

There's always that.

Just when I was about to give up on reading the news…

German police say grenade-shaped item in forest was sex toy

When a bomb squad arrived and inspected the contents of the bag, they determined it was a rubber grenade replica. The condoms and lubricant in the bag helped inform the hypothesis about the device’s intended use, police told German news agency dpa.

April

When they say April showers they really mean it, don't they?

As Chaucer had it
Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote,
The droghte of March hath perced to the roote…

Well. Plenty of percing going on here today. I did have time for a short walk and a quick cuppa Dunkin but now I'm likely to be here, drying out, for the rest of the day.

It's promised to quit by sometime tomorrow morning.

The Post's new standard: Not as bad as Trump?

Says the Washington Post this morning (in a story paywalled on the Post site but available on Apple News, here)…

Through April 26, Biden has made 67 false or misleading statements, according to a Washington Post Fact Checker analysis of every speech, interview, tweet or public statement made by the president. That compares to 511 such statements in Trump’s first 100 days.

Not sure that's exactly rejoiceworthy (although the Post hastens to add Biden's transgressions weren't all outright lies, exactly, but more like "subtle truth-stretching").

As for me, I'm subtly disappointed.

Some werdly advice

Any questions?

Yesterday it was beavers in Canada, today it's flying turtles

In Florida. Of course.

Passenger survives being hit in the head by flying turtle

“I swear to God this lady has the worst luck of anything,” the daughter told the 911 operator as she tended to her injured mother.

The turtle walked away.

Overachievers, those Canucks

Beavers Take Down the Internet in Canada

As CBC reports, the incident was explained as a "very bizarre and uniquely Canadian turn of events," by Telus spokesperson Liz Sauvé. Even though the cable was buried and protected by a 4.5-inch conduit, a team of very hard-working beavers managed to dig up and use their powerful teeth to chew right through it.

Can you spot the difference between this and…eating?

Here’s the Secret to Staying Mentally Sharp, According to a Psychiatrist and a Neurologist

Some nutrients have been linked to benefitting the brain through neurogenesis in humans, according to Dr. Ramsey: omega-3 fatty acids (found in foods like fish, nuts and seeds, and soybeans), phytonutrients (natural compounds found in plants such as vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and legumes), B vitamins (found in meat, dairy, whole grains, dark leafy greens, citrus fruits, avocado, banana, nuts and seeds, and legumes), zinc (found in lean meats, eggs, seafood, lentils, nuts and seeds, and soy), and magnesium(found in whole grains, soy, nuts and seeds, legumes, and dark chocolate). This is one reason why so many doctors are into the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes all the foods mentioned here.
