Inside Job Movie Reviews - Rotten Tomatoes
Synopsis: 'Inside Job' is the first film to provide a comprehensive analysis of the global financial crisis of 2008, which at a cost over $20 trillion, caused millions of people to lose their jobs and homes in the worst recession since the Great Depression, and nearly resulted in a global financial collapse....
Inside Job is, of course, a documentary and so is technically kind of ineligible for our Movies With No Kissing List, more or less, but how many documentaries do you know that get 98 percent on the Tomatometer and furthermore are probably the most important movie you will see all year, maybe all decade, just possibly forever? And no kissing at all?
If you have been following our reading list you will have seen several books on this same subject scroll past. It is a big topic and no one book or movie can cover it all. But Inside Job is a remarkable piece of film making and there's something about just seeing the faces of those guys. It's probably worth seeing twice.
It's snowing. Or maybe sleeting (what, you think I'm going to go find out?). There's nothing on the streets or sidewalks I can see but the windshields of cars in the driveway are covered, the grass (what there is of it to begin with) is whitish, and you can see it on the roofs, this stuff. The weather widget says it's 37º right now but it's still coming down.
Cut it out! Go back to Canada!

Riled about rail: Why all the anger over high speed trains? - CNN.com
(CNN) -- "Stop the Train" was, literally, a rallying cry for post-Tea Party Republicans this past November.
Newly elected GOP governors in Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida have canceled already-funded high speed rail projects.
Much of the opposition to rail projects appears to stem not from economic arguments, but from fundamental cultural values on what "American" transportation should be.

Robert Scheer: The New Corporate World Order - Robert Scheer's Columns - Truthdig
The debate over Republicans’ insistence on continued tax breaks for the superrich and the corporations they run should come to a screeching halt with the report in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal headlined “Big U.S. Firms Shift Hiring Abroad.” Those tax breaks over the past decade, leaving some corporations such as General Electric to pay no taxes at all, were supposed to lead to job creation, but just the opposite has occurred...

Cory Doctorow, Boing Boing - CNN has discovered that the TSA considers "complaining about TSA procedures" to be a profiling marker for potential terrorists. They explain that one terrorist (the "twentieth hijacker") complained a lot about TSA screening, and so that means "getting angry about TSA screening procedures" goes in the "signs of terrorist intent" bucket.
