Inside America's mask crunch: A slow government reaction and an industry wary of liability - The Washington Post

Chief executive Michael Roman said he was concerned that repurposing the company's industrial masks, which made up the bulk of its production, for use by doctors and nurses could leave the company vulnerable to lawsuits. The lack of a liability waiver from Congress — a protection the industry has sought for years — would hinder full distribution of the gear, he said.

Smelling like a rose there, Johnson (you too, Johnson)

As the United States was succumbing to an epidemic of addiction, the Johnson & Johnson family of companies became the leading maker of narcotics for popular opioid pills, a dominance achieved through decades of innovation, navigation of U.S. drug policy, and the cultivation of poppies in this remote haven on the other side of the world.

Noted on a walk this afternoon

Here's a new handwashing station on Main Street. It's the only one I saw but there may be more.

Good idea.

OK, let's all take a deep socially distanced breath here, shall we?

"Other nations recommend wearing masks to avoid coronavirus, but the Trump administration has not seen a benefit," begins this article in Politico. I know we're all supposed to hate the Trump and everything he stands for, but in this case, well, the CDC has so far recommended against everybody wearing masks, and so has the WHO. May keep you from spreading it, but won't keep you from getting it.

And anyway, the healthcare workers are having trouble getting the masks they need already, and just try buying on at your local CVS or Walgreens or, for that matter, anywhere in town.

Anyway, FYI, if DIY face masks become all the rage I'm going to wear a bandana, like a train robber,.

I get eggs, sort of…

People rush to raise backyard chickens amid egg shortages, coronavirus concerns - The Washington Post

…grocery stores nationwide are attempting to remain stocked by imposing limits on commonly hoarded products such as milk and eggs.

…but how do you hoard milk? It spoils, doesn't it? Mine does, at least. You could hoard powdered milk, which you can buy in most grocery stores, around here, at least. Or I suppose you could, if you had to, just learn to use spoiled milk and love it.

But really.

NYPD to enforce social distancing on subways: Mayor de Blasio

Police officers will kick riders off the subways and force them to spread out on cars to stop the transmission of coronavirus, Mayor de Blasio said Monday.

…I can't be sure if it still works the same way but when I lived in New York the subway system employed "pushers"—people who worked the platforms during rush hours and literally pushed the last passengers into subway cars so the door could close. "Social distancing" wasn't measured in feet, but in rather small fractions of a inch.

So it's a little difficult to imagine…
