Long, long ago, when I was new to New York, I was having lunch at a Chock Full o'Nuts across the street from where I worked on lower Broadway. The guy sitting two stools down from me left and was replaced at the counter by a new guy, and the guy next to me, between me and the newcomer, asked, "What's with all the crowd out on the street?"

"Oh, nothing," the new guy answered. "Just two guys walking down the middle of the street in space suits."

"Ah," said the guy next to me, and he went back to eating his soup.

We are easily amused

Some guys came by this afternoon to cut down a dead tree in the neighbors' yard. We all went out to watch. Pictures were taken. A video was made. A slow-motion video was made. The tree made a lot of noise when it hit the ground.

We are hoping they come back some day to cut down another.
