The researchers said Pluto failed to dominate its orbit around the Sun in the same way as the other planets....That's the British public they're talking about, presumably. Which must be a somewhat more finicky public than our own. Somehow an image of the American public rising up in protest of Pluto's misfortune is difficult to conjure up. Although I may be wrong, of course; there seem to be a lot of Mars and Venus fans.
There is a recognition that the demotion is likely to upset the public, who have become accustomed to a particular view of the Solar System.
