Hey, Boss, I'm with you on this tomato thing. There's nothing better than a real tomato -- sliced with cottage cheese on top, or maybe tuna salad, or just plain with a little salt and pepper. Or in a salad, or on a burger. But the ones you buy in the grocery store are even worse than cardboard. Luckily for us, there are roadside stands that sell semi-real tomatoes during the warm months, picked before they are ripe and shipped north. OK, but disappointing. For real tomatoes, we rely on the old guy down the road who turns his back yard into a tomato patch and sets up a self-serve stand in the front yard. For about 5-6 weeks, we get great tomatoes. Then it's back to cardboard. The world's going to hell in a handbasket. Or something.
