George Will has lately taken to branding Mitt Romney the Republican equivalent of Michael Dukakis — “a technocratic Massachusetts governor who takes his bearings from ‘data’ … and who believes elections should be about (in Dukakis’ words) ‘competence,’ not ‘ideology.’”
