More monkeys than people is not a bad thing. In fact, it was rather nice. The people were gracious and a surprisingly large percentage of them spoke English -- and spoke it far better than my college Spanish.
We visited the village of a bartender we met at a hotel -- imagine the odds of me encountering a bartender! -- because the village's fiesta was just beginning. It was a sad little wide spot in the road, built around a little stadium for bull fights.
The local version of the running of the bulls involved the young men of the village sitting on the fence drinking large quantities of beer. When they built up enough liquid courage, they would jump into the ring and be chased by the more enegertic bulls.
It was the highlight of the year in that village. But the food was good.
