In Bellmead, Texas, reports a local (News Channel 25) ABC affiliate, a 4 year-old hugs a teacher's aide, gets slapped with an "in-school suspension" for "inappropriate physical contact."
well, i'm toast, then. i hug the six year old ESOL kids (mostly migrantish strawberry pickers' kids) so close they say I'm "soft" as i run my fingers through their hair when it's chilly and we're standing in a line outside waiting for their teachers to come get them. one of them told me today in a tiny, very serious voice "i love you." and then there's the ESE kids, which are the damaged ones, four or five little boys around 8, who just think i'm great and are the light of my week: they climb up me and think i'm cool. little guided missles streaking towards me as i cross the playground, homing in for hugs.
