I've never thought of Maureen Dowd as a really heavyweight columnist (although then again you don't see me writing for the New York Times), but once in a while she does get off a good line, as in this one describing the election cycle just, mercifully, concluded:

"This will be known as the year macho politics failed – mainly because it was macho politics by marshmallow men."
