Georgia high school refuses to let girl on football team

The Washington Post

Megan Garth might be the best field kicker at the school, but she won't be joining the team at her private Christian school. Read the full story

…I had a role in the smashing two-night run of a high school senior class play called "Time Out for Ginger," about the havoc caused by a girl trying to join the football team. The play could be mounted again this school year and still be timely. In all the years that have passed since my star (ahem) turn we've managed only to make the subject more complicated and immeasurably more unintelligible. As witness this from one Col. Seth Hathaway, head of the Prince Avenue Christian school in Bogart, Georgia:

"While the school recognizes the changing roles of girls in organized sports, its covenantal partnership does not support the belief that mixed athletic contact sports should traverse a spectrum from high school varsity all the way down to the second grade."

In other words, Girls Keep Out.
