The Putin Olympics - Leon Aron - POLITICO Magazine
"In putting his Winter Olympiad near a beach resort, Putin seems to be possessed of what might be called the Peter the Great complex: emulating the tsar who built his capital, from scratch, on a swamp."
They might prefer a little cold. Sochi, the site of the upcoming Winter Olympics, is on the same latitude as the French Riviera.
I was skiing in Steamboat Springs once when the sun was so warm people skied in shorts. It was fun. But it was hardly snow to break world records on. Putin seems to be on quite a roll these days, though. So who knows? Maybe he’s on to something.
