So sue me: I think this is fascinating

I'm reading a book that mentions the speed of light is "almost 200,000 miles per second." I understand the book is trying to present its subject in a non-technical way, but why is "almost 200,000 miles per second" any easier to understand or conceptualize than 186,000 miles per second? (Or, for that matter, 186,282?)
