The wildest Bay State gubernatorial campaign in decades is on the brink of an epic negative ad war as the candidates head into the homestretch with millions of dollars from deep-pocketed donors eager to sling mud, pollsters and political operatives predict.
“In races that are this close, in the end you just go nuclear,” said Jennifer Duffy, senior editor at Cook Political Report, which lists the Massachusetts governor’s race as a toss-up. “You throw what you got as hard as you can and hope for the best.”
