Neil Stephenson's REAMDE is a big, rollicking novel about Chinese geeks, British spies, Islamic jihadists, Russian mobsters, a Hungarian hacker, American survivalists, a former bear-hide smuggler and an extended family from Iowa–really, Iowa–planes, boats, ATVs, SUVs, guns, grenades, and one big cat. And more–it takes 1,000 pages to wrap all this up, and every one of them worth reading. Best book of the year. (OK, it's only January, but still.)
