Mickey Spillane's first Mike Hammer novel, I the Jury, was very, very hot stuff in 1947, the year it was published, the kind of book elementary school boys (who shall remain nameless) snuck into the house and kept hid under their beds. Mike Hammer also inspired another two dozen or so additional novels, a couple of movies, and at least one TV series over the next 60 years (three of Spillane's Mike Hammer books have been published since 2000, all three finished by different authors from Spillane's manuscripts).
We might have more of Spillane in time, but for now it's I the Jury on the reading list.
