It turns out with the Google smart phone app (and the Bing smartphone app too) you can point the phone's camera at a bar code and Google will tell you what the bar code says. For example, you can point the camera at the bar code on a tin of Twining's English Breakfast tea and Google will tell you, "Twining's English Breakfast tea."
Also, if you point the camera at the label on a Dole banana, Google will tell you "Dole banana." And as an extra added bonus, no extra charge, it will tell you that the word, "Dole," on the label says "Dole."
