MINNEAPOLIS – The first officer of the Northwest Airlines jet that missed its destination by 150 miles says there was no fight in the cockpit, neither he nor the captain had fallen asleep and the passengers were never in any danger.

No one has thought to ask about the amount of fuel remaining on board when they landed. Airlines save money by using the minimum legal fuel load, which is typically destination+alternate+45 minutes. If their alternate was 30 minutes from MSP, and they flew an extra hour, they might have landed with about 15 minutes of fuel remaining...
